All of our staff practitioners are Licensed Acupuncturists (L.Ac.) by the Commonwealth of Virginia Board of Medicine.    Their licensing requires passing the examinations and certification of the National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).

Deann F. Bishop, L..Ac., MSOM - Owner & Staff Acupuncturist

Deann is a native of nearby Rockbridge County and received her Masters of Oriental Medicine from Southwest Acupuncture College, in Santa Fe, NM.  She is trained in Chinese Herbology, TuiNa (Yin and Yang style), Shiatsu, Aromapuncture, and is a student of the Hakomi method.  She has owned and operated a private acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine Clinic, Blue Ridge Acupuncture, in Troutville for over 15 years.  She also formulates custom remedies through her private pharmacy, MetalDogMedicine.

Victoria Taylor, L.Ac. - Staff Acupuncturist

Victoria has been practicing acupuncture for more than 20 years, since she graduated from a three-year program at Mandarin School of Chinese Medicine (Jacksonville, Florida) in 1990. Prior to moving to Montgomery County, Virginia, in 1997, Victoria served on the faculty and Board of Directors for the Mandarin School of Chinese Medicine in Jacksonville, Florida.

In addition to her work here, she lives and works at Yellow Sulphur Springs in Christiansburg, Va, and acts as a supervisor for the Acu-Detox programs at both Carillion St. Albans and New River Valley Community Services.

Melissa Maynard, L.Ac. - Staff Acupuncturist

Melissa began her studies in Chinese Medicine through formal apprenticeship in a family lineage system in 2005. She later completed a four year acupuncture program at Jung Tao School of Classical Chinese Medicine, becoming a licensed acupuncturist in 2012. Melissa believes in the power of nature as medicine and is part of the rewilding movement. Her hobbies include music, gardening, birding, quilting and walking barefoot in the woods.

Lorraine Glenn, L.Ac. - Staff Acupuncturist

In 2010 Lorraine graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelor's of Science in Psychology and Religious Studies. Driven by her desire to help others through philosophy, psychology, and health education she pursued a Master's Degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 2014 Lorraine completed her degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine in Denver, CO and moved back to her hometown of Copper Hill, VA. Love of teaching and educating others about the medicine she practices fuels her passion for a lifelong study of alternative and complementary medicine. She hopes that one-day integrative medicine will include the valuable wisdom of many cultures and healing modalities to provide health care and relief to everyone in the best ways possible.  Growing up in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, Lorraine enjoys gardening, hiking, caring for animals, supporting the local economy, preserving natural resources, and living mountain life.

Stephen Kirbach, L.Ac. - Staff Acupuncturist

That Stephen Kirbach’s ride through life has come to intersect with the study and practice of acupuncture has proven fortuitous and feels wholly apropos, not by intent so much as revealing. He feels best when he’s working to help others feel better. He idiotically studied poetry for about 5 decades before settling into acupuncture studies, and the transition was (arguably) seamless. Among multitudinous mishaps, he has driven old cars coast to coast until they irrevocably broke, walked, broke a rib, rode freight trains, broke an elbow, turned blue, swam, fell off a horse, nearly drowned, walked some more, fell off a boulder, walked yet even more, and once briefly flew (resulting in another broken rib). Now he’s finally starting to learn simply to drift. He has an MA in English and studied acupuncture at Jung Tao School of Classical Chinese Medicine. He is NCCAOM board certified and licensed to practice acupuncture in the state of Virginia.
